Caregiver Advocacy

At Otsuka, we’re working to lead an industry-wide shift in the ways caregivers are valued and supported. We are committed to caring for caregivers—standing with them, the way they stand with their loved ones—supporting their mental health as they care for the health of others.

COMMITMENT

Valuing Every Caregiver

What’s inside the mind of a caregiver? What’s behind the sacrifices they make every day? What sustains their resilience through thankless struggles, relentless frustrations, and the quiet isolation that may occur as their loved one’s disease progresses—and what toll does it take on their mental health? Otsuka knows that within the mind of every caregiver lies immeasurable love, unimaginable strength, and at times, an unspoken need for support. That’s why Otsuka is dedicated to sharing their stories—and shining a light on the mental health of caregivers.

New research from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, sponsored by Otsuka, underscores the urgency of the caregiving crisis and quantifies the current value of family caregiving. In the US, 44.58 million caregivers provide $873.5 billion in unpaid labor each year, reinforcing the need for legislative and financial support.

The State Of Family Caregiving

Nearly half of America’s states are on the brink of a caregiving emergency. The latest installment of this Otsuka-sponsored caregiver research series introduces a new scorecard to assess the urgency of local caregiving needs and collects recommendations for policymakers at the federal and state level.

Family Caregiver Calculator

Family Caregiver Calculator

A compensation study by Salary.com, sponsored by Otsuka, estimates that caregivers for loved ones with Alzheimer's or other dementias would earn a six-figure salary—approximately $114,000 on average—if paid for the daily care they provide. Alongside this research, a compensation calculator helps caregivers quantify their efforts and measure the financial impact of their care.
